Foxed

Sir: In his article on the Sherlock Holmes stories (Books, 17 July), Mr Lerner refers to P. D. James' detective, Adam Dalgliesh, and his assistant, Sergeant 'Brer' Fox. Is this the same Brer Fox who is the assistant to Ngaio Marsh's detective, Roderick Alleyn? Are there two Brer Foxes? I think we should be told.
