From Andrew Schnaider Sir: Frank Johnson (Shared opinion, 10 July) suggests that Julian Le Grand 'sounds like an invented name'.

Well, truth can be stranger than fiction. At Monash University here in Melbourne the Dean of the Arts Faculty goes by the name of Homer Le Grand.
