THE HIGHER CRITIC

[To the Editor of THE SPECTATOR] SIR,—The writer of your article " The English Bible " claims that the Higher Critics " have destroyed the doctrine of verbal inspiration." But have they done so ? The same critics 3nce denied the historical accuracy of the Old Testament. Every spadeful of earth excavated in biblical lands has only proved the Bible to be right and the critics wrong. Why should we accept the conclusions on verbal inspiration when the historical " criticism " is so manifestly unreliable ?— Yours faithfully, D. A. ASKWITH.
