Without consent

Sir: May I congratulate you on your splendid leader last week (June 17). It expresses more plainly and more forcefully than any-. thing else I have ever read the ease against allowing ourselves to be dragooned totally against our will into what you rightly call that -" ramshackle and clapped-out organisation" — the European Economic Community. It seems almost beyond belief that it should be necessary to spell out in this way to otherwise sane people that this is a monstrous misuse of power, and that what we are allowing the Prime Minister to do, almost singlehanded, is to "surrender Parliamentary sovereignty in exchange for high food prices "; but since it does need to be said, it could hardly have been said more clearly or more unambiguously.
