Pen Oliver's Problem. By Rate Douglas Wiggin. (Gay and Bird.)—This

is an excellent "story for girls,"—really good sense combined with really good fun. "Pen's problem" is how to make a very narrow income serve for herself and her mother, and, afterwards, how to earn her own living. She manages to do both, and to do other things, by the way, that are not a little profitable to others. The service that she renders to Edgar Noble makes a. particularly attractive and instructive part of the story. " Pen" is a really admirable person, both "bright and good," but alto- gether human. Happy the family that has such a girl in it !
