Sir: I was surprised at the statement, in the leading

article in your paper (March 17) that time at university provides "three or more comparatively idle and carefree years." Compared to what, I should like to know? Students by and large, are an extremely hardworking and conscientious group in our lazy society. Surely our governments should aim to increase the general level of education to as high a point as is reasonably possible. Only in this way can we get a better ordered, and more sensible society.

Your paper, moreover, seems to imply that it is the whole of the student body which "talks about going on strike." As usual it is, merely the more vocal minority elements.within our ranks which have been heeded, while the vastly more sensible, and sober, bulk of students, wish merely to pursue their studies in reasonable comfort.
