The Liberals have lost York by a narrow majority. The

vote for Mr. Milner (Conservative), was 3,91.8; for Mr. Lockwood (Liberal), 3,927; majority, 21. The poll of the Conservative is eleven less than *that polled by Mr. James Lowther at the general election. The poll of Mr. Lockwood is 578 less than the poll of Mr. Creyke,—the highest Liberal,—at the last election. In other words, the Liberals have lost much ground, the Con- servatives hardly any. York has never been a very pure con- stituency, and the falling-off in the Liberal vote is chiefly due, we believe, to the irritation of the publicans, the canvassers, and so forth, at the stringency of. the Corrupt Practices Act.
