Good Samaritan

In our issue of 14 April 1967 we published a poem by Philip Hobsbaum entitled 'Good Samaritan or, the trouble with Cary.' We pub: fished this poem in the honest belief that the persons named and referred to therein were fictitious.

We have now learned that this is not the case, and that the poem could be understood by some readers to refer to Mr and Mrs Harry Chambers of 74 Fitzroy Avenue, Belfast, although neither of them is actually named in the poem. We have also learned that the poem constitutes a grave libel on Mr and Mrs Chambers.

We very much regret that the poem was published and offer Mr and Mrs Chambers our unqualified apologies for any embarrassment which they have been caused.
