THE BOLTON ECCLESIASTICAL INQUIRY.

TO TIER EDITOR OF THE SPECTATOR.

Standish Rectorg, Wigan, 21st October 194ff, Sin—A paragraph which originated in the Liverpool Mercury is going a* round of the newspapers, in which my name is printed, not as one of the Com- missioners of the late court of inquiry at Bolton, but as tbat of the subject of the inquiry. Their means of procuring and recording information should, I think, make, such mistakes impossible; but as, by a strange carelessness, the error lute hem, made, and is being copied into most of the papers, I am induced to request yop to insert this letter in your next impression, as the best means of contradicting it

The Court assembled at Bolton was constituted to inquire into certain charges against a clergyman of the diocese of Chester; and the members of it were Mr.. Chancellor Raikes, Mr. Archdeacon Rushton, the Reverend E. C. Girdlestone. Vicar of Deane, and the Reverend W. H. Brandreth, Rector of Standish.
