COMMON SENSE NEEDED.

During the election, however, there has been a mad struggle in places on the part of bigoted (I am afraid there is no other word that can be used) Tariff Reformers and bigoted Free Traders. The unbending Liberals have insisted that no National Government should have a mandate for imposing tariffs, while on the other hand a certain section of the Conservatives have been deter- mined to try and establish a case that the whole point of the election has been the fiscal question. Of course, neither of these Parties is right in the real sense of the word, and the average elector has felt that the occasion was one when he was compelled by force of circum- stances to give the fiscal policy a second place in his considerations having regard to the menace of a possible Socialist Government.
