Mods, Modes, and Models

sympathise with Mary Holland in her ful- some description of what I termed the mindless new aristocracy of models and photographers. One must remember that apart from rebuking cats who spit at kings, Miss Holland largely earns her living as a fashion writer.

I criticised Miss Holland's models and photo- graphers not, as she suggested, because they are 'young and rich and beautiful, and even intelligent,' but because they are devaluing sex.

Marcellus said, `Ex repressione intcusitatus nascitur' (i.e. don't unscrew the inscrutable). This precept developed magnificently in England alter Wesley. Moral hypocrisy and Mrs. Grundy thrived. As a result people became powder kegs of sexual repression, to be ignited by the merest spark into explosions of cathartic euphoria.

This precious hypocrisy is being dissipated by the insistent promotion of the healthy activities of our jaunty new aristocracy.
