Vocal Music for the Young. No. I. By MARY KINGSTON.

A good collection of this kind is beginning to be wanted, but the present publication only partially supplies the deficiency. Such a work should consist of compositions in two and three parts, systemati- cally arranged, and so framed as to lead the young vocal student gradually, and step by step, over the difficulties of part-singing. No such plan—indeed no plan—is attempted by Miss KINGSTON. The first song is one which a nurse would sing to a child, and not one fit to place in the hands of a child to sing ; and the songs in general are useless and out of place. The really useful portions are the duets and trios, which are well adapted to form part of an elementary work.
