The Annual Report of the Scottish Society for the Prevention

of Cruelty to Animals (19 Melville Street, Edinburgh) is, as usual, full of interesting information. The Duchess of Portland writes a foreword summarising the various ways in which subscribers and all animal lovers can promote the aims and objects of the Society. Societies formed throughout the world for the protection of animals report their progress to the Scottish S.P.C.A., and we are glad to see that the police seem to be taking the prevention of cruelty to animals more seriously, particularly in North Africa, where conditions for animals are extremely hard. It is impossible in this note to give a fair summary of all that is contained in this Report, but we recommend all Spectator readers who have the welfare of animals at heart to send for this Report and study it in detail.
