Two Years SIR,—It may interest you to know that prior

to the 1914 war the ordinary man in Germany was liable for three years' service in the army, but with good behaviour he got off with two. A man passing an exam similar to our matric only served one year, and was only obliged to serve Fix weeks in barracks.
