Sir: In the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung of 12 August 1

read a brief summary of an editorial of your distinguished paper obviously dealing with the causes which led to the recession in the German economy. Although I had no occasion to check the original article, I should assume that it was quoted fairly correct. Congratulations! Finally there is a newspaper--although non-German --that frankly states how it all came about. Unfortunately only a few people here realise and understand it.

Obviously even the 'opposition' is well satisfied with the course things have taken—not at last through their attitude—and has become a con- tented 'paper tiger.'

By the way, things cannot be quite as bad inasmuch as most of the Federal Republic can afford lengthy vacations abroad and plenty of leisure time. Besides, as you may have noted, one is more and more talking now of symptoms of recovery.

Good to have state-controlled means of publica- tion such as TV and radio. Just put on a new record!
