The consideration of the Budget has absorbed nearly the whole

of public activity. Nevertheless a remarkable meeting has been held in London to promote the practice of elementary drill in public schools. We have expressed our opinion on the subject in a separate paper ; and have only to add here, that the meet- ing was distinguished as much by the quality of the speeches delivered as it was by the high characters of the speakers, and that few propositions have ever been brought before the public by a greater array of authorities.
