have been interested in the various examples of links with the past which have been appearing in the columns of the Spectator recently.. I think my link is as unique as any. I was four years old when my grandmother died in 1861. She had been carried as a baby in the arms of a woman who had lived in the reign of Charles II. As that monarch died in 1685, there is up to now a stretch of at least 237 years with one link.
