One of the late Mr. Procter's very successful efforts to

popularise astronomy is The Southern Skies (W. H. Allen). It may be best described in the words of the title-page as "a plain and easy guide to the constellations of the Southern Hemisphere," showing in twelve maps the position of the principal constellations night after night throughout the year. Each map exhibits the position of the stars four times for three months. There is a brief ex- planatory introduction.
