the deck of a sinking steamer. The danger of being washed off a raft may be easily over- come by a wooden fence or railing, say two feet six inches to three feet high, attached in sections on the four sides of the raft laid flat on the surface (sunk into the flooring perhaps would be best), firmly attached by hinges to the flooring, easily raised and automatically bolted at the out- side of the fencing when raised.
