Mr. Beresford Hope was very severe on the feeling displayed

by the Opposition that the support of Conservatives was "like a shake of the hand from a man with the small-pox." He resisted the veto on formularies, asking if the 7'e Deuni was a formulary, and eulogized the Church Catechism, the first part of which was the composition of an Elizabethan divine (Dr. Nowell), who was " a leader of what would now be called the Low-Church party, and likewise the inventor of bottled beer;" and the latter part of which was the composition of Bishop Overall, a High-Churchman of the reign of James I. Mr. Beresford (lope thought it would be a very great loss to the schoolmasters to deprive them of the composition which was the joint work of the Iligh-Church bishop and the inventor of bottled beer.
