The Prime Minister went on tospeak of the Japanese Alliance,

which bad helped to preserve peace and fair play in the Far East. We desired to preserve the well-tried friendship of Japan, and to apply it to the solution of all questions in the Far East, "where Japan has special interests, and where we ourselves, like the United States, desire equal opportunities and the open door." Mr–Lloyd. George said that our foreign policy must never be based on any racial division between East and Wait ; that would be fatal to the Empire. He hoped for America's sympathy in this matter.
