25 JUNE 1977, Page 19

Sir: Isn't it time that your employee chosen to write about television programmes stopped sniping indiscriminately at everyone?

He may feel able (11 June) to `predict with some confidence that everyone will be heartily glad when it is all over' (it being the Jubilee `yawnorama') but he is wrong. Many people have thoroughly enjoyed the excuse to be emotional and uncritically happy in the many varied celebrations of the Queen's Silver Jubilee and they will be sorry when it is all over.

Perhaps your employee has for too long been associated with cynicism and backbiting. Let him criticise something deserving of contempt – not those programmes which appeal to what is decent in us all. Heaven knows there are enough of the former.
