Getting the dope

Sir: You and your correspondents continue to miss out the most important reason why cannabis should be sold, regulated and taxed like alcohol, and narcotics prescribed to addicts only by qualified medical per- sonnel: a teenager getting stoned on mari- juana or hashish, having a good giggle and waking up the next morning without even a hangover, will be entitled to conclude logically (if in ignorance) that the equally draconian laws against more dangerous drugs are also rubbish.

Even the media seem to encourage misinformation. On the national television news I have seen a story about cannabis introduced with a picture of a hypodermic syringe inset behind the talking head on the screen. Surely some of the London trendies working in the news departments know that the one has nothing to do with the other?
