The Confederate Senate has at length passed the Negro Enlist-

ment Act by a majority of one. The resistance to it is still very violent, but it has no doubt become law. The slaves in the Caro- linas are said to be deserting in numbers to avoid being drafted, and the masters in many cases to be organizing resistance.
