Gay fraction

Sir: Poor Richard Ingrams! I am sorry he is so offended (4 March) by nasty homosexuals being allowed on television. After all, there are only about three million homosexuals in the country and yet, in a year, as many as five out of 4,000 hours of air-time are squandered on them, and on such trivial matters as press freedom and evangelical 'queer bashing'. A scandalous state of affairs indeed.

But never mind, Mr Ingrams, when this blasphemy case has blown over, perhaps we can all go back to pretending that gay people don't really exist. For who needs informed discussion and analysis when you could have instead blissful ignorance? John Jenkins 65 Elfrida Road Watford
