FOOTBALL IN THE UNITED STATES [To the Editor of THE.

SPECTATOR.]

Sia,—In The Spectator of April 13th is a brief comment on the visit of the Cambridge University Rugger XV to the Eastern States, where your contributor Janus intimates that no " soccer " is played in the United States. In this he is in error, as "soccer" is extensively played in the New England and Northern Atlantic seaboard States, the Greater Chicago area, St. Louis district in Utah and inter-mountain States and in California.

It is " rugger " that is the unknown game in the United States, though for several seasons some two decades or so ago, " rugger " displaced the inter-collegiate game of football at Stanford University (Palo. Alto) and at the- University

of Calif. (Berkley),--I am, Sir, &c.,. „, G. MoRGAN. clo Rosslyn Hotel, 5th and Main Streets,.
