Rhodesian sanctions

Sir: The recent parliamentary decision to continue sanctions against Rhodesia is a throughly shameful one. When Harold Wilson, six years ago, connived with foreigners and dictators to bring about the destruction of loyal and friendly Rhodesia, he committed what was probably the most vile and despicable act in British political history. There was not the slightest justification then, and neither is there now, for sanctions to continue a day longer, and for the Conservative government to perpetuate this deplorable policy year after year, puts them on the same level as former contemptible administrations, whose policy has been one long catalogue of retreat, abandonment and surrender of British interests throughout the world, which has been a source of deep humiliation to loyal British people here and in the Dominions. Whether they realise, it not, the decision of our elected members to destroy the Rhodesian nation, will only serve to strengthen those powerful global forces, whose major preoccupation during this last half-century, is the overthrow and destruction of the British world system and all it once stood for. The British government should stop clobbering our true friends in southern Africa and concentrate their efforts upon frustrating our real adversaries.
