Captain LINDENBERG, the Swedish gent'eman who was sen- tenced to

death for writing a libel on the King, will not petition for the remission of the penalty, relying on the King's humanity to save him from its execution. In this he probably will not be de- ceived. In the meanwhile, the King has proposed to the Estates an amelioration of the penal law, to the following effect-

" Every one who speaks or writes offensively against the King, the Queen, or him who is declared heir to the throne, shall be punished by imprison- ment in a fortress:, a time not less than two or more than ten years, with or without loss of honour, according to the nature of the crime and the circum- stances attending it."
