Sir: It was distressing to see the heading 'Exit Wilson's

poodle' in your 18 October number. Is it not time this foolish fashion of calling people 'poodles' was discontinued? It is not only offensive to those it is intended to insult but also to a most dignified and self-respecting animal.

Those who have anything to do with this breed know well that there are few dogs who know better how to get their own way. They are experts in persuading all manner of humans to act as their servants and to minister to their wishes for adornment and comfort. The clichd is as off target as it is stale.
