Road rage

From Mr David Wainwright Sir: Gavin Stamp really does take the biscuit (Arts, 11 September). I don't know where Mr Stamp has been living this year, but the almighty row over the high level of taxation on road users (fuel duties, vehicle licence) seems entirely to have passed him by. In stark contrast to 'roads lavishly funded by central government', coach companies, as well as all other road users, pay for the annual expenditure on roads several times over; enough, in fact, to also pay for the sub- sidies which continue to be meted out to the train-operating companies. So where is the fairness in that? It's about time that Mr Stamp had that bad case of myopia seen to.
