A tragic .case of .accidental poisoning occurred last week at

Loch Masse, in Ross-shire. No fewer than eight persons, members of a fishing party, died as the result of eating potted meat. Other members of the party who did not eat the potted meat were un- affected. We deeply regret that among the victims was Mr. J. F. Talbot, eon of Air. G.. J. Talbot, the well-known K.C. The deaths were attributed at Slat, as is usual in such imam to "ptomaine poisoning." But there is considerable 'doubt about the came, and . it da satisfactory to ,know that a public official inquiry is to be held. Meanwhile, we notice in the _Manchester Guardian of Tuesday statements made on the authority. of Dr. Ledingham, of the Lister Institute, which are as interesting as they are alarming. It is suggested that a new form of food- poisoning has .appeared—new at least in this country, though it has been known 'during the last three years in America.
