Sin,—I read with interest Mr Enoch Powell's article on Vietnam

in the SPECTATOR of August 19, but I feel it only right to point out a serious error of fact in his last but one paragraph. He writes:

. . the United States began to withdraw her forces and, like the snark, "softly" (if not "suddenly") to "vanish away."' As any genuine snark-hunter knows, it was the Baker who vanished in this fashion, and that because 'the Snatk was a Boojum, you see.'
