The Overture to the Zauberflote, tmnscribed front the Score for

the Organ, with Pedals Obligati; by W. T. Best.

An arrangement for the organ of an opera overture seems at first sight somewhat inappropriate. But the overture to the Zauberflote, "the despair of composers," stands alone among works of its class. It combines with matchless felicity the depth and solidity of fugal counterpoint with the flowing melody and brilliant effects of the theatrical style; and the organ is the only keyed instrument which can produce anything like its orchestral character. Mr. Best's arrangement is skilfully executed, and will afford much pleasure to organ-players.
