After the lapse of a century, our attention is again

drawn to the subject with which Mr. Francis Abell deals in his interesting record of Prisoners of War in Britain, 1756 to 1815 (Humphrey Milford, 15e. net). This book is full of romantic episodes and curious details, which throw light on the lives of the prisoners taken in the French War, and help to vindicate this country from the charge of having treated them with exceptional inhumanity.
