A TAX ON POSTERS.

[To THE EDITOR OF THE " SPECTATOR."]

Snt,—Has not the time come when a tax might be placed with great advantage upon advertisements ? I refer particularly to those which are displayed in public places on hoardings, which disfigure the towns and villages and even the fields throughout the length and breadth of the country. Wo have suffered this form of :" frightfulness " too long. It would be at least some consolation to know that these posters were " doing their bit" in helping to supply the sinews of war. They do these things bettor in France, where it has long been the practice to attach a Govern- Solent stamp to every (Tide displayed in public places.—I am, Sir, Ree., F. G.
