The problem of developing Central Australian resources is receiving an

increasing amount of attention in the Commonwealth. Last year, as I recorded in these notes, General Sir T. Bridges, the Governor of South Australia, made an expedition across the continent. The announce- ment has now been made in Adelaide that Lord Forster, the Governor-General, accompanied by Mr. Bruce and members of the Federal and State Parliaments, will proceed to Central Australia about April to inspect the country affected by the projected trans-continental railway. Both from the strategic and economic stand- point, • the linking-up of Port Darwin in the Northern Territory with Adelaide is of the greatest importance.
