A REGISTER OF LINGUISTS
Sgt,—May I ask the hospitality of your columns to make an appeal to British subjects who have a knowledge of certain of the lesser-known foreign languages, and who are willing to help the Government if needed? We want to add, at once, more names to the list of such persons on the Central Register so that we may be able to get in touch with them without delay should the need for their services at any time arise ; in certain cases there are immediate vacancies to be filled. The languages in question are : Albanian, Bulgarian, Chinese, Estonian, Finnish, Georgian, Japanese, Lettish, Lithuanian, Turkish and the .Jugoslay. group (Serbo-Croat and Slovene). Ability to read, write or speak the language well is, of course, essential, and the appeal is limited at present to persons who are British-born, and are of British parentage. Any persons who are in a position to respond to this appeal are asked to enter on a postcard their full name, address and languages offered, and send the card to the Central Register (Languages), Ministry of Labour and National Service, Montagu House, Whitehall, S.W. 1.
