Mr. Lloyd George went on to point out how great

was also our need of machine guns, which he described, and we believe with truth, as the most formidable weapon in war. No doubt we shall always want rifles, but a plentiful supply of light, and therefore mobile, machine guns would undoubtedly enormously strengthen our hands both for offence and defence. We trust, however, that while Mr. Lloyd George is getting us more machine gum he will not forget how vast an amount of small ammunition is got rid of by them, and will proportionately increase the supply of cartridges. Machine guns literally devour ammunition.
