Britain and Germany

SIR,—Referring to your footnote to Mr. Mark Goulden's letter (Spectator, March 12), would it not have been better to let your readers form their own opinion'? Admittedly, Mr. Goulden's letter is vehement and hard-hitting, but since when has it been 'arrogant' to stand up for one's country when attacked?

PS. It may interest you to know that I have owned and driven a German car for the past six years in this country and only on one occasion have I come across any anti-German feeling and this may well have been due to an error of judg- ment in my driving.
