One swallow of course does not make a spring election. All the same the results of two countY council elections last Saturday at Potters Bar In my constituency are an interesting pointer. In 1962 (Orpington year) the result was Liberal 3,935, Tory 2,150, Socialist 1,284. This year the seat was divided and the Tories won both easily. Adding the figures together 1965 shows Tory 3,505, Liberal 1,706, Socialist 1,564. The lost Liberal deposit at Saffron Walden argues that, in spite of Roxburgh, the Tories should regain many hundreds of seats lost in the spring elections of 1962.
