Hare's caricature of Tory achievements somewhat ridiculous, especially his re- marks on Aids and private health care.
But it is his charge of McCarthyism that sticks in the throat. The Left is still hugely dominant in films, plays, and much cultural comment. Nearly all 'political' plays and films are left-liberal. Professor Norman Stone — I assume he is 'the don' referred to — is not being intolerant. It is sad to admit though that the Right has done so little to dislodge this pernicious left-wing influence. I look forward to the day when Mr Hare and his angry young comrades are no longer so dominant in our plays. Fortu- nately one Tom Stoppard is worth a thousand Edgars or Kureshis, so the situa- tion is not so bad.
