The Italians have advanced steadily if slowly in the extraordi-

narily difficult country of the Isonzo. Nearly everywhere they look up from low positions to high positions, and the wooded country occupied by the Austrians screens gun positions which are hidden from the most vigilant airmen. In spite of this, the Italians ha l e made good all their positions against counter-attacks, and have added some important new ones to the list. The total number of Austrian prisoners taken in the present offensive is over six thousand, including more than one hundred and forty offiezri.
