Mr. Redmond disclaimed all desire to, discuss the Government's specific

proposal for an immediate settlement on the basis of ex- clusion. That had failed,-by the Prime Minister's Own admission. The.alteruative proposal was entirely different. For the first time. in her history Ireland had been asked to settle these problems for herself, and the. suggestion was backed by a practically unanimous- House of CoMmens, Press, and public opinion. The proposal- whiah -carried- with it the implied obligation that this country would he only too glad to carry Ireland's decision into effect—was one which- • no Irishman- and no section of Irishmen could with any reason refuse, and he felt sure that they would all come in.
