SIR WALTER SCOTT'S MEMORY.—His trim", Mr. Thomas. Campbell called upon

him one evening to show him the manuscript of a poem he had written—the Pleasures of cope. Sir Walter happened to have some fine old whisky in O.:ells:Rise, and his friend sat down and had a tumbler or two of punch. Mr. Campbell left him, but Sir Walter Scott thought lie maid clip into tile manuscript before going to bed. He opened It, read, and read again—charmed with the classical grace, purity, and stateliness of that finest of all our modern didactic poems. Next morning, Mr. Campbell again called ; when, to his inexpressible surprise, his friend, on returning the manuscript to its owner, said he should well guard against piracy, for that he himself could repeat the poem from beginning to end ! The poet dared him to the task, when Sir Walter Scott began and actually repeated the whole, consisting of more than two thousand lines with the omission of only a few couplets.—. Inverness Courier. ZLNC Suarrnso.—The Semaphore, Marseilles paper, of the 4th in- stant, states, that the ship-owners of that place have found the means of rendering zinc in every respect equally applicable with copper for covering the bottoms of vessels. By steeping the sheets of zinc in tallow,. or vegetable grease of any kind, in which is infused about one-tenth part' of verdigris, all kinds of adhesions on the outside—such as weeds, shells, &c.—are prevented. TEA —The East India Company have iss ied a notice, stating that at the next March sale their teas will be put up at the following rates :— Boheas, Is. 3d.; Congous Is. 8.W.; ditto fine, 2s. Oid. • Campois, 28. 4d.; Souchong and Pekoe, 2s. '7d. ; Twankays, 2s. lid.; liyson-skiu, 2s. 2d. ;. Hyson, 3s.; ditto fine, 3s. 4d. per lb.

THE RHINOCEROS —One of these huge animals has been shipped at. Calcutta, in the Edinburgh Castle, and is on its passage to this country. It stands eight feet high, and is about eleven feet long.

NAMES.— The Brabant manufacturer, Hanks, gave his name to the skein of worsted, which still retains it ; and Thomas Blanket, a weaver in Bristol, has given a bedfellow both to ladies and gentlemen.
