The New Gymnastics. By Dio Lewis, M.D., Boston. (W. Tweedie.)

—This volume is prefaced by an introduction written by Mr. Tyler, Principal of the London School of Physical Education. As we criticized the principles on which Dr. Lewis's system is founded in a notice (Spectator, Nov. 5) of a lecture delivered by Mr. Tyler on the same subject, it is only necessary to say now that this treatise confirms the favourable opinion we then formed of them. The instructions here given are so clear, and the illustrations so numerous, that any one pur- chasing this book may practise the system without farther instruction. Dr. Lewis has added translations of a Kloss on the Dumb-bell" and Schrobefs "Pangymnasticon," useful German treatises of the same kind.
