We are bound to point out, however, that a g reat

responsi- bility rests upon the Tariff Reformers. If they are sure of winning without adopting the course we indicated, well and good, but it is obviously essential that they should win. If their strategy fails, they will have done irreparable injury to the momentous causes which they, like ourselves, have at heart. In a word, their policy can only be justified by success. Upon this point we shall say no more till the Election is over, and we most devoutly hope that there will be no need to return to it.
