SIR, —In your review of The House of Macmillan you say

in connexion with Morley's " Life " that " the Gladstone family to their great enrichment retained the copyright." That is quite accurate, but may lead to a false inference. No member of my family ever received a penny of this money, the bulk of which was devoted to the building and furnishing of the residence at St. Deiniol's Library, Hawarden.-
