Sir: There is a perfectly straightforward way of dealing with

the muzak-in- restaurant menace (Letters, 5 November). Politely summon the manager and request that the sound be turned down — or, prefefably, off — as you, your companion or both have a bad headache — a symptom which, in my case at least, instantly de- velops anyway when I am exposed to the dreaded muzak. This humane request has never been refused.
