Sir: I thought the original article by William Cash a

stale and dismal example of the kind of chronic, low-level anti-Semitism endemic at all levels of English society. The lan- guage of the lower-class exponent of this particular prejudice would simply be more vulgar. I am British and Jewish and I gener- ally ignore it.

My own prejudice is also based on lan- guage. I cannot understand the content of Mr Wieseltier's letter — the nature of his threat and its link with Passover. I am sure this is because I am not a speaker of Amer- ican-English. I feel on surer ground with William Cash. His letter following up the article was even more dismal in style and content, and finally boring!
