Sir: Perhaps A.N. Wilson would draw com- fort from his hatred of baseball caps were he to know they are popularly known as IQ reducers (Diary, 11 November).

The simple act of wearing one, peak for- wards, halves normal IQ; turn the peak to the rear and it reduces to near zero.
